My name is Tom!
This is my story; it is still being written but here goes nothing...
It began around 13 years ago.
I just left school and I was taking a year out of education before I started at the Arts Institute Bournemouth.
At that time, I was playing around with t-shirt designs. I have a t-shirt obsession and I thought that if I could make my own it would satisfy that obsession and I could earn a living from it. I was a bit green, I had all the ideas but had little money or knowhow money to start the project, so I needed to find a job.
I was talking to a good friend of mine and he said the company he was working for was looking for someone to add to their small team. He showed the owner what some of my designs I had made and organised an interview for me.
I hopped on my motorbike, rode down the country lanes of North Dorset to get to the small village where the warehouse was for the interview. Just as I got there the kickstand on my bike broke, dropped to the floor and I thought I was going to be catapulted off! Luckily, this did not happen, but I did think this was not a good start to my interview! The good news was the owner loved bikes and helped me fix it! After talking for 10 minutes I had the job and I started the next day!
Fast forward to the present day.
I never made it to the Arts Institute! I have now worked at the same company for the last 13 years! During this time, I built up a wealth of knowledge from product development, graphic design, photo editing, business management and everything in between. Not only did I gain all that knowledge it has allowed me to travel extensively and see much of the world from the U.S.A to Australia, China and most of Europe. It is something that I will be eternally grateful for and I still love working there!
So why have I decided to start Bertees? 2020 has been a bit of a crazy year. Not just because of COVID-19 but a lot of personal changes which happened in such a short space of time. It has made me think that life is too short, and I did not want to put my ideas or dreams on hold anymore.
So what's next?
I've begun to design tees from ideas inspired from the wildlife around the world and my desire of adventure and exploration. Part of the Bertees ethos is to give back and help restore the wild. Initially I've decided to support One Tree Planted an organisation that helps reforest parts of the world. But I would like the take this further in the future and support more organisations that help restore earths wildernesses.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
As I mentioned my journey has only just begun and your support is greatly appreciated! If you have any comments, questions or thoughts please feel free to reach out! I would be happy to hear from you.
